Did you know that Algeria was able to participate once in an international beauty pageant?
Algeria is a country located in North Africa. It is the largest country on the Mediterranean, the second largest on the African continent and the eleventh-largest country in the world in terms of land area. The capital of Algeria is Algiers. 99% of Algerians are classified ethnically as Arab or Berber by unofficial sources and according to their native language but this doesn’t really reflect the real ancestry of Algerians, which is mostly a mixed ancestry made of Berber and different European and Middle Eastern populations that have invaded northwest Africa at different periods of history and mixed with its inhabitants.
Algeria is a vast country offering tourists a wide selection of attractions and activities. The capital city of Algiers has a rich past and ruins at Djemila, Tipasa and Timgad are fascinating to see. Main attractions in Algeria include the National Museum of Fine Arts as well as the Bardo Ethnographic and Local Art Museum. Step back in history by making your way to the Hauts Plateaux where you will discover the historical city of Tlemcen as well as the Grand Mosque, Almohad ramparts and Masourah Fortress. Heading out towards the forbidding Sahara, opens up a whole new world of attractions in Algeria. The holy town of Beni-Isguen, with its well-guarded gate and auction market, makes for an interesting stop. Ouargla, also known as ‘the golden key to the desert’, is a lovely town featuring a malekite minaret, market square and gorgeous architecture. Natural attractions in Algeria also abound with Kabylia and the Chiffa Gorges. Take in the beauty of the ocean along the Turquoise coast or the Sidi Fredj peninsula.
Miss Algeria World 2002 – Lamia Saoudi
It seems that there is annual Miss Algeria competition but the country only joined a Big 4 pageant (Miss World) last 2002. The very beautiful Lamia Saoudi had the privilege to do so. I am hoping that they will be back and be represented in all Big 4 pageants. I am a fan of Middle Eastern beauties, Lebanon and Egypt as examples. I find their beauty really ethereal.
