Throwback Thursday (04.21.16): Philippines, the ever gracious host!

In the days leading to the grand finale of Binibining Pilipinas 2016, fans were anticipating a “surprise announcement” that points to the country’s hosting of Miss Universe 2016. To everyone’s disappointment, there was no announcement made last Sunday.

Let us look on the positive side of things though and be comforted with the fact that no announcement has been made (yet), so Philippines still (technically) has a shot on it. Today, let us look back to 1974 and 1994  when we showed to the world the infamous Filipino hospitality when we hosted the Miss Universe competition in those years.

Fresh from the crowning of the 2nd Filipina Miss Universe, the country accepted the challenge to host such a grand pageant. It gave us Amparo Munoz and the rest they say is history!

Who will forget the now infamous answer of Sushmita Sen? The competition also gave us Carolina Gomez and Minorka Mercado, two of the most unforgettable Miss Universe candidates.

I was in Manila during the summer of 1994 when the city was in the middle of hosting the pageant. I do not have vivid memories of the activities though, so I am eager to witness another Miss Universe here in the Philippines 🙂

Are you as excited as I am for another Miss Universe pageant here?
